First lost tooth!
About 1 1/2 weeks ago, Ava lost her first tooth. Her tooth had been just barely loose all summer, and on a Monday she bit into an apple and said "Owww, Mom!" Her gums around that tooth were bleeding and suddenly the hardly loose tooth was very, very wobbly. She was constantly playing with it over the next two days. Thursday morning she crawled into bed with me for a quick snuggle before getting ready for school, and she suddenly says, "My tooth is gone!" My first thought was, "oh great, she swallowed her tooth." So we went to her room and I picked up her blanket laying on her bed, and there was a very small thud. There it was! Her first lost tooth. She was so excited it happened on a school day. We put the tooth in a baggie and off to school she went. She came home with a sticker and "lost tooth" certificate. It was a good day!

Bad at blogging, but at least this is an update
I'm not good at blogging regularly. I think about it from time to time, then talk myself out of it because what I thought about writing wouldn't be important enough or interesting to anyone. :)
Anyway, here's a quick update:
Ava is now 5 1/2, and started kindergarten about 3 weeks ago. Day 1 was easy - it was a half day and I drove her to school and picked her up. Convocation started at our church at 8:45 and I picked her up at noon, so it was a short day and busy. But day 2 was a different story. She had to be ready to get on the bus by 7:50, so her alarm was set for 7:00. She was up and dressed by 7:01. I think she was a bit excited. She got pancakes for breakfast and then we took a few pictures. We were at the end of our driveway by 7:35. Then the bus came at 7:55, and I walked her around the front of the bus to the door. She was so excited she hardly looked back. I'm so glad she loves the bus and school!! However, about 10 minutes after she was gone, I had my tear-filled moments. My baby girl was riding the bus all by herself to school! I got over it soon because Wyatt was ready to have me all to himself.
Speaking of Wyatt, he has really gotten to be a big boy in the last few months. He has been #1 potty-trained for several months, but this summer he mastered it standing up. He learned to do it by standing on our landscaping and going on the cement below. It was quite a sight to see! Then just this week, in fact only 3 days ago, he starting #2 on the potty. We have tried everything to get him to do that, and finally, FINALLY, he has done it on his own. Woohoooo!! Sunday he went to Sunday school for the first time, which was also a strange feeling to have both kids in Sunday school. He seems to have liked it, and I hope it keeps up.
We are currently looking for some new chicks due to an unfortunate incident with one of our friend's dogs and our old chickens, but I won't go into those details. We have a couple options, and are hoping to get them in the next couple of weeks.
I have a lot going on as well. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but I have felt called to each one of the opportunities I'm involved with. First, I'm leading Sunday school music/singing again this year. I'm excited, and hopeful the kids are more responsive with an animated adult leading them. Second, I'm co-facilitating a small group at Coffee Break, a women's bible study every Wednesday morning. I'll be sharing this responsibility with two other women, so that will be helpful. Third, I'm a small group leader for MOPS this year, and I'm very excited about that...and a bit nervous. :) Finally, I have agreed to be a room mom for the kindergarten room. This task is also shared with another mom, so that will be a big help too.
So there's a quick update on the life of the Nykamps. Til next time blog. :')
